3G in Andorra: how to connect to the internet, roaming prices and alternatives

When we go on holiday, or away for the weekend, besides having fun, we also want to share our experience on social media or keep in touch with our friends on WhatsApp.

“But isn’t roaming free in Europe?” Well, yes and no. You won’t be charged extra fees to use your data in countries that are part of the European Union. Unfortunately, that doesn’t include Andorra.

“So how do I upload my selfies to Instagram from CALDEA?”

Listen carefully, and we’ll explain everything!

Roaming prices

Roaming prices vary depending on your home country, your provider, your contract… but we all know that the rates are quite high.

For example, if you’re coming from Spain, each megabyte will cost you an average of €12 and you’ll pay €2 per minute for calls.

Some French, Belgian and Spanish telephone operators have signed agreements with Andorra Telecom (the only telephone company in the country) to make connections cheaper and allow their users to connect without having to worry so much about their bills. You will need to contact your provider to find out if this is the case for you.

The alternatives

If you don’t need to be online and connected 24 hours a day, you can always wait until you find one of the country’s Wi-Fi hotspots. Alternatively, you can use the Andorra Wi-Fi service, which is available in the main shopping districts of Andorra la Vella and Escaldes-Engordany. It can be used for free (with adverts every 15 minutes and speeds of up to 5 Mbps) or you can pay for an enhanced service (no adverts and up to 20 Mbps).

But if you prefer to have data available at all times, you can purchase a prepaid SIM card from Andorra Telecom which you can also use for calls and navigation within the country. The initial pack costs €30 and includes the SIM card and €30 of credit. And if you need to recharge it for future trips, or even during your first one, you can do so for €15 (valid for 2 months), €30 (valid for 5 months) or €60 (valid for 7 months).

And in our centre…

… You don’t even have to get out of the water to share a story on Instagram or go live on Facebook! When you purchase admission or enter CALDEA (either via Thermoludic or INÚU), don’t forget to ask a receptionist for the Wi-Fi name and password so you can stay connected completely free of charge during your visit.

So now there’s no excuse not to post your photos on social media!

Come to Andorra, take a photo in our waters and tag us on Facebook, Twitter or Instagram. We’ll be waiting for you!
